Collision Analysis Software Application
Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT)
Each year, more than 130,000 reportable collisions occur on Washington’s roadways. Information derived from these
collisions provide a valuable tool in identifying problems, designing countermeasures, and evaluating the effectiveness
of solutions. Each biennium (every 2 years) the Washington State Department of Transportation spends approximately $130
million on safety improvement projects based solely on information gathered from collisions throughout the state.
Currently, WSDOT uses a group of DataMarts to analyze collision data from the statewide repository. Although these
DataMarts meet the majority of analysis needs of personnel at WWSDOT, various other local and state agencies are unfamiliar
with the structure and function of WSDOT’s DataMarts. Many of these transportation and public safety professionals require
in-depth analysis to effectively carry out their responsibilities.
This project will acquire and implement a collision analysis software application for use by various transportation and
public safety professionals throughout Washington. This application will provide a user-friendly interface and robust
analysis capabilities to all levels of government. Project participants have developed a set of functional requirements
for inclusion in a request for information (RFI). This RFI will provide vital information about the capabilities of commercial
software products and the viability of procuring such an application.
