Collision Workflow Improvements at Dept. of Licensing
Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL)
The Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL) processes approximately 140,000 collision reports per year. Recently,
the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and DOL worked together to develop an electronic system to
allow DOL staff to access collision images and process electronic collision data. This process has proven useful but
also contains a number of redundant and unnecessary processes that were not included in the original design. This project
will improve the current system used by DOL to access and process collision data. The following details of each of the
following improvements (more information can be provided upon request):
- Produce Reports in MS Excel: The current reports are documents produced as a Windows ASCII file and sent to a Drivers HQ mailbox.
- Add Register: The Add Register report lists the records that have been added to the Driver database during the weekly run.
- Auto Generate Notification Letter or Restriction: Under certain conditions, COL has a regulatory requirement to apply a restriction on the driver license of a driver with an intermediate license involved in a collision.
- Exception Register: The current Exception Register report includes several types of exceptions (license number not found, out-of-state, hit and run, name change).
- Uninsured Driver Report: Driver Responsibility staff use this report to determine which collision images within the Collision Workflow System can be archived.
- Modified Run Report: This report shows those records that have been modified by the run.
- Potential Post Records Report: This report includes all records that could potentially be posted to the driver database but are not posted because they may be duplicates.
