Collision Image Access
This project will develop a collision image viewer
to allow agencies who rely on collision data to view electronic images
of collision reports. The Washington State Patrol will use this product
to view collision reports involving commercial vehicles. The image viewer
will also be used in the Electronic County Location Coding project to
provide county engineers collision report images. Additionally, the
project will provide CVD with a data feed containing collision data
for commercial vehicle collisions. This data feed will auto populate
the SAFETYNET system.
Project Lead: Department of Transportation
Estimated Cost: $425,000
Implementation Schedule: 3/2004 – 10/2005

Traffic Records Website
The Washington Traffic Records Committee (TRC)
is responsible for planning and coordinating traffic records projects
to enhance transportation safety throughout the state. The TRC will
develop a website to improve communication efforts with stakeholders.
The website will provide information about meetings, projects, national
and state documents, and standards. The site will be an informational
resource to agencies and organizations across the state.
Project Lead: Washington Traffic Safety Commission
Estimated Cost: $5,000
Implementation Schedule: 4/2005 – 8/2005

Collision Data Timeliness
Approximately 140,000 collisions occur on Washington’s
roadways each year. Collision reports collected for each of these incidents
provide valuable data to various agencies and organizations. The delay
from the time of the event until the information is available to consumers
averages eight months. This project provides means to allow the Department
of Transportation to reduce the current backlog of data entry. Reduction
of this backlog will enable collision reports to be entered into the
statewide collision database within 60 days of the incident.
Project Lead: Department of Transportation
Estimated Cost: $ 420,000
Implmentation Schedule: 8/2004 – 9/2005

Electronic County Location Coding
Annually, an estimated 30,000 collision reports
require additional location analysis by county engineers. Hardcopies
of these reports are sent to couties along with a coding form (CLCF)
to more accurately locate county road collisions. These engineers provide
additional data and mail the CLCF back to the WSDOT. This process is
automated by electonically notifying county engineers of a collision
in their jurisdiction and providing access to a WSDOT internet site
for viewing images of the reports. Location analysis data can be gathered
and then electronically transmitted through the site directly into the
statewide collision database.
Project Lead: Department of Transportation
Esitmated Cost: $90,000
Implementation Schedule: 1/2005 – 9/2005

Web-Based Citizen Collision Reporting
The Department of Transportation currently
receives about 20,000 Vehicle Collision Reports (VCRs) each year. These
reports are filed by citizens that have been involved in an uninvestigated
collision. Various data from these reports are entered into the CLAS
database. This project seeks to automate this process.
Project Lead: Department of Transportation
Estimated Cost: $
Implementation Schedule: 2009

WA Transportation Framework (WA-Trans)
The Transportation Framework project will provide
a statewide, standards-based method of location for transportation data.
This standardized data will be utilized by GIS systems and will include
information regarding where all roads, rails, ferry routes and other
transportation infrastructure are located. WA-Trans provides an accurate
statewide transportation data layer for improved feature and event location.
Project Lead: Department of Transportation
Estimated Cost: $4,000,000
Implementation Schedule: 4/2003 – 4/2009

Mobility Information System CLAS
(Collision Data) Module
This project will add a CLAS module to Mobility
that would enable county engineers to make more informed decisions on
traffic safety improvements. This will improve analysis capabilities
of statewide collision data for county engineers.
Project Lead: County Road Administration Board (CRAB)
Cost: $25,000
Implementation Schedule: 10/2005 – 2/2006
WA EMS Information System (WEMSIS)
The Washington EMS Information System will capture
non-confidential data on all prehospital patient encounters from the
500+ licensed prehospital services in the state. WEMSIS establishes
a standard for reporting data, a DOH repository for collecting and storing
the data, and a method for prehospital agencies, supervising physicians,
regional planners and others to retrieve reports from the dataset.
Project Lead: Department of Health
Estimated Cost: $750,000
Implementation Schedule: 2006-2009
